How we can help eradicate dry rot

Dry rot affects rooms that are either damp or poorly ventilated. It is most commonly found in suspended wooden floors, cellar timbers, structural timbers and the back of skirting boards. Dry rot needs damp (with 20% moisture) to spread in your property and does not affect the wood in an outdoor environment.

Despite being less common than wet rot, dry rot is still dangerous as it has the ability to spread quickly.

The fungus will take hold in the property and develop a mass of cotton-like threads which attacks the wood in your property. These cotton-like threads have the ability to pass through mortar, brick and plaster. Dry rot has the ability to move from the basement up towards to the roof. It can also spread from one semi-detached building to another building.

It is not easy to detect dry rot in property as it often elusive and attacks timber in a covert manner. However, if the affected wood is prodded with an external instrument, it will release a musty, mushroom-like smell.

The solution

To tackle dry rot, we use a specialised micro emulsion treatment and it is suitable for the treatment of dry rot. Our treatment allows for a deeper spread into the timber than other conventional treatments. No wood preservative will work until it comes in to contact with the fungi whereas our treatments will do the job. In addition, our micro emulsion products are well suited for masonry sterilisation.
