How to prevent wet rot?
If you want to prevent wet rot, we advise customers to take note of damp walls and address the problem as soon as possible whether it is a missing/damaged damp proof course (dpc), a bridged dpc or a bridged cavity. If you suspect wet rot in your property, contact our office for a detailed survey.
We advise customers to inspect their roof space for any ingress of water entering the property. The water may be flowing underneath the tiles onto the timber structure which may be a distance away from any visible holes. When it rains, we suggest you view the roof with a torch, and you may see the water shining down the timber or standing out from the felt.
Wet rot tends to be found underneath the kitchen sink, washing basins, toilet, shower, and behind the washing machine and more. The timber has a high possibility to become saturated with water in these areas as a leak could go unnoticed for a considerable period of time.
